Description

Opened first as a nine-hole layout, now the present back nine in 1974, the club was originally known as the Bent Tree Golf and Racquet Club. The present 18-hole course opened for play on October 1, 1975. The club became private on September 1, 1985 but it was not until December the membership reached the required 300 members - Bent Tree Country Club was an entity. The course was intially designed by Bill Lewis and Ward Northrup handled the redesign of the greens in 1994. The club has an idyllic setting. Every effort has been made to retain the natural beauty of wooded areas, sparkling lakes and streams found on the property where birds and wildlife abound. This relatively unspoiled terrain serves as the back drop for golf in a northern setting. Designed to challenge golfers at all levels, the course caters to the most exacting golfer as well as forgives those with higher handicaps. Located just east of I-75 at exit 38 just off of Bee Ridge Road, Bent Tree has something to offer everyone. Tree lined fairways, expansive greens and miles of lakes and stream combine to create a unique environment with an appealing blend of natural beauty and championship golf opportunities at Bent Tree country club. Bent Tree is a very walkable course and provides four sets of tees ranging from 5,465 to the tips at 6,863 yards. The par 72 layout has two signature holes: the par three 12th hole which requires players to hit a tee shot to carry 185 yards over water to a steep front sloped green protected by a mammoth bunker in the front of the putting surface. Then there is the ever dangerous 511 yard par five 18th which features a double dogleg with water left right in the middle to a three tiered green. The back nine is considered by all to be the toughest part of the course. US Open Qualifiers have been hosted at Bent Tree in the past and the Florida State High School Championship was played at Bent Tree in 1998 and 1999. Participating with other private and semi-private clubs in the Sarasota area on a summer reciprocal basis, the grand old lady of southwest Florida golf awaits the return of the LPGA to Bent Tree Country Club. Bent Tree Country Club is member owned and governed by an elected Board of Trustees and operates as a not-for-profit corporation.
